Scenario 1:
Let’s say I travel to a distant city. Alone. I leave tonight and I will be stopping somewhere along the way for the evening. I know nobody there and I don’t want to hit the bars for conversation (which is still ok, sometimes). Say I would like to meet some people in that city, people who like the same things as me, or laugh at the same kind of humour. They could be living there or be, like me, en passant.
Now: I input my destination and filters. The site (or maybe the phone, you’ll see imediately) filters the available people, the locations and their profiles and sends them a message about me, they RSVP, then I get a message back, maybe with some input from them. Everyone who fits the profile gets a message. I get to the meeting point, ok, a public place, by means of GPS coordinates from the message. We meet and have a nice time (maybe).
This could easily be acheieved by a Twitter of sorts. Then again, writing this up, I found meetup.com.
Scenario 2: (now this one is really tricky)
I would have an app on my phone that stores my profile, a detalied list of basically who I am. When turned on, this app connects wirelessly with all other phones in the surroundings and tells their users someone of possible interesting-ness is near. You now have Nokia Instant Community: http://sp2.ro/7ad689 , but it’s still a baby.
Ideally, you could load so many filters that it would never beep unless it would be your soulmate.
I thought about these for some time now, then found others did too. Makes me think we are somewhat covered when it comes to socializing…
